Chapter 4: Built Different

When asked about what has shaped me into the coach I am today, I'm reminded of our slogan, "Built Different." One day I asked two sisters why they were so good, they responded because we are Built Different.

I believe that we are all unique individuals, each possessing distinct qualities. Some learn differently than others, some progress faster than others, but every child deserves an equal opportunity to be heard, loved, and not left behind. I've always acknowledged that I wasn't the most naturally talented player, and that's something I was fully aware of. However, I was fortunate to have two outstanding brothers who have been exemplary role models for me. I was blessed to have a mother who instilled in me good values and principles from the home and a father who pass on to me his athletic genes. I've also been guided by many coaches and family.

I've often said that if I could make it, then anyone can. With all that has shaped me, and now as a coach, getting to know each child, regardless of their age, culture, or personality, has taught me even more. Sometimes, I feel like I'm learning more from them than they are from me. But every day, I continue to learn, to improve, so that I can reach each child's heart and offer them the best.

For me, the most important aspect isn't just soccer, even though it may seem that way because it's the platform I specialize in. The most crucial element is connecting with the child and earning their trust. With their trust and what I have to offer in the world of soccer, I believe we can fuel their passion and help them harness their unique qualities and virtues.

The "Built Different" philosophy is a reminder that every child has their own path and potential, and as a coach, my mission is to recognize, nurture, and encourage each of them to be the best they can be. It's about embracing individuality, building self-confidence, and helping them realize that they can achieve great things, no matter their starting point.
